HTML5 Drum Machine (TR-808)

21 Mar

Check out this awesome HTML5 TR-808 Drum Machine!

Via Engadget:

“For the aspiring DJs and living room producers, there’s now a way to craft your drum machine chops with nothing more than your favorite web browser. An HTML5-driven site lets you choose between iconic instruments like Roland’s TR-808 and TR-909, alongside Elektron’s Machinedrum, the LinnDrum and a regular ol’ acoustic kit for the luddites. In addition to turning nobs to get the perfect sound, you can save samples for use during your next studio session. What’s more, when you’re all finished, the site allows you to export loops as a WAV file that can be employed in a more robust production app. If you’ll recall, there’s also a web-based MPC that’ll let you try your hand at piecing together samples used by J Dilla and Kanye West. With these two tools in your browser, there’s really no excuse for not exploring that music habit.”

Akai announces the MPC Renaissance – EPIC FAIL? Or the Future?

Akai MPC Renaissance –

Oh Wow! Akai announces the new MPC… The “Renaissance” as they are labeling it. Looks to be about useful as the Native Instruments Maschine. Not really that impressed with hardware controller/software combinations. I don’t see the point. This is essentially the same thing as running a Pad controller + existing DAW… but if it bangs and speeds up your workflow, by all means go cop one!

We can also tell you that Akai has two more MPC products on the way: the MPC Studio looks set to be a slimline version of the MPC Renaissance (a Maschine Mikro rival, perhaps?) while, intriguingly, the MPC Fly is designed for the iPad 2. More details on these as we get them.

1. First off, introduce yourself to the readers.

My name Greg Savage I’m a music producer/sound designer from Oakland California, I been producing music for a little over 6 years. I’ve done projects for: MTV,Ford,Native Instruments,UPN,Fox31,ESPN, Lions Gate Entertainment,BigFish Audio…I’m also the co owner of todaysbeats.

Alkota: Everyone has a J Dilla Drum Kit. If you Google J Dilla Drums, you will find numerous free and commercial kits from various sound designers.

2. What separates your J Dilla Drum Kit from the rest?

You know that was one thing I worried about when creating this kit, “being confused/compared with the others”. The thing is 95% of the J dilla or “insert producers name kit”  are horrible. These so called sound designers are just chopping sounds out of mp3s, slapping a price on it and calling it a day. Now the other Dilla kits are just recycled breaks that everyone already has. I don’t really want to expose any of these sites/companies but I mean… Anyway I wanted to separate myself from that madness. Now I’m fully aware that J Dilla was a breaks user but there is vital difference from using the same breaks compared to using and understanding the filtering process used. You can have Dre’s drums in front of you and guess what… Your track still won’t sound as good because you don’t know how he is filtering and that’s what gives a producer his sound.

SP-1200 Flash Drive feat. Exclusive Drum Samples

Exclusive Drum Kits Pre-loaded…

Alkota is teaming up with hip hop producer Illmind, boom bap mastermind M-Phazes, and Super Engineer Mike Chav to distribute their custom Drum Kits on my 8GB SP-1200 Flash Drives.  As a producer and beatmaker myself, I am reaching out to producer’s who have drum sounds worth having! Illmind recently released his Blap Kit Vol. 1 which I purchased for $20 via Illmind’s Blog. Hands down, it is one of the dopest “producer kits” I have heard in a while. I love seeing other producer’s, like Illmind put out bangin music, dope products, and live events.
